After years of idly dreaming about making wine from our own vineyard, we “lost the plot” and moved from California to the Inkwell Vineyard on the serendipitously named California Road in the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia.

Inkwell produces single vineyard wines.  Our goal is to honestly express our unique site - the combination of soil and climate, wind and sun on our vines.  Without the safety net of blends of grapes and sites, we sweat the small stuff.  Almost every step  - pruning to bottling - is done by our hands.  We only get one chance a year to make the wine we dream about, so the little things matter.  A lot.

Only when we know that the wine is truly expressing our forty acres will we bottle and release it.  If we don’t believe it, we sell it off unlabeled.  As a business, it’s a fool’s errand.  As a life, it’s a lot like, well, life - but with more wine!

2006 Rebel Rebel

McLaren Vale Shiraz

“The name Rebel Rebel is an homage to the rock and roll anthem.  It’s also a tribute to the adolescent reaction against “the done thing” that has gotten us this far in life.  Running against the grain isn’t very easy.  But it’s a hell of a lot of fun.”
