2021 Inkwell Black and Blue Fortified Zinfandel (2x375ml)
New vintage release – from the producer of Halliday’s 97-point 2020 “triumph”
When our 2020 Black and Blue received 97 points from Halliday Wine Companion and was called “a triumph,” it sold out faster than we imagined. We weren’t sure we could outdo it—but the 2021 has us quietly confident we just might have.
This vintage of Black and Blue, our signature late-harvest fortified Zinfandel, is again the last pick of the season—crafted with patience, intention, and a deep respect for tradition. It was matured for two full years in 100-year-old reconditioned fortified barrels, resting in our winery shed where it gently absorbs the shifting moods of McLaren Vale’s seasons.
The 2021 is dark and brooding in the glass, showing remarkable depth and composure. While rich and powerful, it remains refined—layered with texture, framed by supple structure, and lifted by a streak of natural acidity that stretches the finish and brings lightness to its intensity. There’s an earthy, savoury edge to balance its opulence—making it as thoughtful as it is indulgent.
It’s a wine that rewards slow sipping, long conversations, and shared moments. Elegant. Complex. And undeniably delicious.
