2026 Inkwell Yellow Grillo

from A$35.00

Grillo (GREE-low) is a white grape variety from Sicily, best known as one of the traditional grapes of Marsala. As a still white wine, it has found an unlikely but very natural home at Inkwell in McLaren Vale.

We removed 1.5 hectares of Shiraz to plant Grillo because we believed its Mediterranean origins and natural affinity for a warmer, drier climate made it worth the experiment. We were right.

This is our fourth estate release, and the Grillo has quickly become one of our favourite whites.

A few days of skin contact gives the wine colour, texture and depth, while ageing in concrete egg-shaped tanks allows it to develop without imposing oak character. The result is a white with energy, savoury complexity and a distinctly salty, textural finish.

Fresh and mouth-watering, with citrus and green-apple brightness alongside chalky texture and subtle savoury notes. It has the freshness to make you reach for another glass, but enough structure and complexity to keep revealing itself.

And there is a reason we keep making it: the Grillo keeps getting better.

The 2025 vintage was awarded 94 points by Halliday Wine Companion and named among Australia’s Top 100 White Wines under $40 — following the same 94-point recognition for the previous vintage.

The 2026 is the vintage we're particularly excited about.

Unfined. Unfiltered. Estate grown. Regenerative organic.
